Andrew Stewart B.A., M.B.A., LL.B.
Expertise in Business Law, Real Estate, and Wills and Estates
Andrew is admitted to practice law in the Province Ontario. At Stewart House, Andrew practices in the following areas of law:
- Business Law
- Real Estate
- Wills and Estates
Andrew provides advice at all stages of a business lifecycle, from incorporation and organization in the start-up stage, to financing, operational expansion and reorganization in the growth stage, and acquiring a competitor or exiting the industry in the maturity stage. As a business lawyer, Andrew understands the value of practicing “preventative law” where pre-emptive legal advice is offered at the start-up stage to avoid potential or future problems for his clients.
Andrew handles residential and commercial real estate transactions, including the preparation of offers and mortgages. Andrew assists clients with estate planning and administration, from the drafting of wills and powers of attorney to complicated corporate and personal tax-planned reorganizations, and trusts.
Strong Foundation of Education
Andrew earned his law degree (LL.B) with a specialization in Business Law and Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from Dalhousie University. While at Dalhousie, Andrew was awarded the Robert T. Donald Memorial Prize for obtaining the highest grade in Corporate Transactions. Andrew received an Honours B.A. (B.A.) degree, joint specialization in Economics and Political Science, from the University of Toronto.
Andrew was born and raised in the Niagara Region. Before returning to Niagara, Andrew spent three years as Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions at Ironshore, an international insurance company, underwriting both domestic and cross-border transactions across different industries, deal sizes and structures.
Prior to joining Ironshore, Andrew was a corporate lawyer at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in Toronto where his practice focused on business transactions, corporate finance, securities and general corporate matters.
Understands the Client Perspective
Having been on the client side at Ironshore, Andrew understands the need for clients to get a top-tier service at a reasonable price. Andrew is upfront about the costs likely to be incurred on a matter and he keeps clients informed throughout the retainer. Andrew’s goal is to effectively and efficiently guide clients through their personal and business endeavours to minimize any associated legal risks so they can focus on other priorities.
Planning for the Future
Andrew understands the importance of succession planning as he currently practices with his father, Mark, and brother, Adam. Whether you’re a manufacturer, farmer, retailer or service provider, planning for the transfer to the next generation should be a priority. Andrew assists clients with this transition by structuring various legal solutions from simple earn-out arrangements to complicated tax-planned reorganizations.
Deep Rural Roots
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys working on his farm in the Niagara Region that he and his wife, Julia, purchased when they were living in Toronto. Andrew is a proud member of the Ontario Beekeepers Association and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
